set honoring his friend, the late Turkish harpist Fatma Ceren Necipoğlu. The set includes repertoire that was close to Ceren's heart, and that she performed on her last concerts in Turkey and Rio, and that she planned to record under studio conditions. The first disc features a selection of live recordings from Ceren's last concerts, and the second disc is an homage by her colleagues and students showcasing the repertoire under studio conditions. The CD was released on January 18, 2010 on the Kalan record label, and corresponded with a sold out memorial concert at the Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall in Istanbul, Turkey. Byrnes was in attendance for the event. Order a copy of Ceren Necipoğlu: Bir Kitap Gibi from the Kalan website. Proceedes go toward the funding of harp programs in Ceren Necipoǧlu's name. Read more about Ceren Necipoğlu on the dedication page.
Garrett Byrnes has been invited to speak about his late friend Fatma Ceren Necipoğlu, and the harp music that he wrote for her. The talk will be scheduled during the Eleventh World Harp Congress in Vancouver, BC Canada in July, 2011. In addition to performances of works that he wrote for Ceren, he will also compose a new work for harp solo for premiere. Days before her tragic death, Necipoğlu
asked Byrnes for a new work to premiere at the Eleventh World Harp
Congress. Byrnes looks forward to honoring this request, and
with the help of harpist Şirin Pancaroǧlu, Ceren's close friend and colleague, the work will recieve its
premiere in memory of the late harpist. |
